Job Description:
The service manager has responsibility for coordinating staff and resources to achieve high standards of care, considering the physical, social, and psychological needs of service users. They ensure the welfare of service users and compliance with organizational standards, statutory, and contractual requirements. The manager operates within a legislative framework, ensuring all practices align with statutes and government guidelines, and promotes the organization's values and care ethos.
The area Service Manager will oversee and support managers across 5 supported living projects and community activities for adults and children at Lynton Community Care. The Service Manager reports directly to the Registered Individual.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Refer and assess new service users, liaise with previous care teams, families, and advocates to develop personalized care and risk management plans.
2. Maintain good communication and relationships with service users, relatives, and professionals involved in their care.
3. Ensure compliance with relevant statutory requirements and best practices, including the Health and Social Care Act, Health & Safety, COSHH, Mental Capacity Act, and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
4. Manage the home environment to ensure health, safety, infection control, and environmental standards are met, including risk assessments and fire safety checks.
5. Work with CIW to understand and comply with the Fundamental Standards, and carry out necessary statutory notifications.
6. Ensure all legal and statutory documentation related to the home is maintained and up to date.
7. Document maintenance issues and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
8. Monitor and investigate complaints, generate reports, and implement corrective actions and service improvements.
9. Assist in recruiting, inducting, and training staff, and support their ongoing development.
10. Promote a culture of openness, honesty, and continuous improvement within the team.
11. Hold regular team meetings, provide supervision, and support staff development.
12. Build positive relationships with staff, ensuring effective communication.
13. Participate in disciplinary processes when necessary, including suspensions and investigations.
14. Manage staff scheduling, including shift rotas, absences, and holiday planning.
15. Oversee medication management, including ordering, recording, and auditing.
16. Manage budgets, petty cash, and activity funds.
17. Safeguard service users and handle safeguarding issues appropriately.
18. Work with paid personal representatives to ensure legal compliance regarding Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards.
19. Be on call out of hours for advice and incident response.
20. Attend supervision and engage in Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
21. Contribute to strategic planning and business growth.
22. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director, commensurate with skills and competence.
23. Manage financial aspects including budgets and expenditure.
24. Write, review, and audit behavioral reports.
The Service Manager must possess skills and qualifications to support both adults and children with learning disabilities.
