Our Finance Summer Placement offers a unique opportunity to explore the financial engine of a FTSE company, with our finance department being one of the only ones outside London to have an all-encompassing Finance department, with over employees within finance, you’ll gain insight into how a regulated business manages its finances, while contributing to real projects that influence our strategic direction and operational success.

The programme comprises working within one of our key teams in Taxation, Business Information, Treasury, Business Planning or ESG (environmental, social & governance). This placement is designed to give you a deep understanding of how finance supports decision-making, drives performance, and ensures long-term sustainability.

THINGS YOU MIGHT LEARN

1. Support the development of financial plans and forecasts that guide business strategy and investment decisions.
2. Gain exposure to financial reporting, budgeting, and performance analysis across different business units.
3. Understand how taxation and treasury functions operate within a regulated environment.
4. Learn how financial data is used to inform strategic choices and improve business outcomes.
5. Contribute to projects that enhance financial transparency, governance, and compliance.
6. Work closely on climate, nature, and sustainable finance disclosures, supporting investor influence and ESG reporting.
7. Collaborate with the Investor Relations team and contribute to projects with visibility at CFO level.

This programme is designed to equip you with the skills and experience to build a successful career in Finance, Business Planning, or Corporate Strategy. You’ll develop analytical thinking, commercial awareness, and financial acumen, while gaining exposure to a fast-paced, purpose-driven organisation.

HOW WILL THE PROGRAMME WORK?

During the -week or -week placement you will be based at Severn Trent Centre in Coventry, placing you right at the heart of our operations, you will be working day to day with industry professionals, taking lead on projects and real-life work.

Throughout your time with us, you’ll also benefit from a range of opportunities designed to help you explore your career ambitions, support your development, and ensure you get the most out of your placement:

9. Networking Lunch - Connect with fellow placement students in a relaxed setting, share experiences, and start building your professional network.
10. Alumni Lunch - Meet former interns who have successfully transitioned into full-time roles at Severn Trent. Hear their stories, gain inspiration, and learn from their journeys.
11. Senior Leader Panel Event - Attend an exclusive session featuring senior leaders from across the business. Discover their career paths, receive valuable advice, and be inspired by their insights.
12. One-to-One Support -Benefit from regular meetings with managers, Mentors and the New Talent Team

Depending on your year of study, the programme could lead to a fast-track opportunity into another internship programme or even our graduate scheme—helping you take the next step in your career with Severn Trent.

Entry Criteria:

13. A studying for a degree ideally in Finance, Accounting, Maths, Economics, Business Studies or any other related degree

You must be currently studying at a UK university and be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship
