Overview
The Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT) invites applications for a Research Doctor to support commercial research within the Commercial Research Delivery Centre (CRDC) for Cornwall. The post involves supporting local Principal Investigators and delivery teams with running NIHR hosted and sponsored commercial studies across the Peninsula in acute and primary settings. The role includes clinical duties such as examinations, reviewing bloods, and other procedures as required, with opportunities to gain experience across several specialties within the NHS. The Research Doctor will work with delivery teams to increase the Trust's portfolio of commercial studies and recruitment to trials, and to ensure the safety and effective management of research participants in commercial studies. There is also a requirement to mentor medical students and to work on an on-call basis as needed.
Main duties
* Recruit, consent, enrol and monitor patients for new commercial research trials in accordance with each trial protocol and Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
* Work with the Research Delivery Manager, Team Leader for the CRDC, Delivery Team Leaders, research nurses, administrators, facilitators and data managers to participate in research dedicated clinics in acute or primary care settings, either independently or with trial team support.
* Collaborate effectively in multi-disciplinary teams, while also capable of working independently and making clinical decisions with appropriate senior support.

Qualifications
* Medical Degree
* Fully registered with GMC and Medical Defence Union
* Completion of foundation year training with satisfactory evidence of core competencies
* Fitness to practise up to date
Desirable
* GCP Training Certificate (in date)
* MRCP, MRCS or MRCGP (or equivalent postgraduate exams)
Experience
* NHS experience and exposure to a range of NHS practices
* Flexible, with effective multi-disciplinary teamwork and good time management
Desirable experience
* Previous exposure to clinical commercial research
* Outpatients experience; experience in acute and primary care settings
Special Knowledge
* Understanding of audit and clinical research governance, patient confidentiality and data protection
* Knowledge of research regulations and audit principles (desirable)
Skills
* Sound clinical knowledge and ability to apply it to practice
* Clinical skills including venipuncture, blood pressure measurement, ECGs, etc.
* Ability to prioritise, manage time effectively and know when to consult senior colleagues
* Up-to-date professional skills
