About the Role
Position: Gas Engineer
Location: Kent (Maidstone)
Salary: Up to £50,000 per annum plus company vehicle and fuel card
Contract Type: Full time – Permanent, 42.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
This role operates across two Kent and Medway NHS Trusts, covering mental health services and community healthcare, supporting a varied estate of over 120 sites that provide round‑the‑clock patient care.
Key Responsibilities
* Testing equipment and appliances to ensure they function and meet safety standards.
* Repairing problems using problem‑solving to address the issue.
* Instructing customers: Gas Engineers directly interact with customers and instruct them on how to use their appliances correctly.
* Installing gas appliances.
* Assessing risk and following all safety regulations.
* Utilising the proper materials to ensure the job can be completed properly.
* Keeping all work areas orderly to ensure safety of yourself and customers.
* Conducting gas safety checks and gas network tests.
* Compiling asset lists and condition reports.
* Compiling quotes for extra works.
* Repairing or replacing other plant – e.g., pumps, pipe work, tanks, FCUs, sinks, taps, actuators & valves.
Key Criteria
* Domestic & Commercial Gas ACS
* Hold CCN1, COCN1, CIGA1, ICPN1, TPCP1/TPCP1A qualifications
* Construction site safety knowledge
* Proven experience as a commercial gas engineer
* Experience in domestic boiler servicing, fault diagnosis, and installation
* Good understanding of electrical safe isolation and basic wiring principles
* Knowledge of current gas safety legislation and compliance standards
* Excellent communication skills with a customer‑focused approach
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team
* Comfortable using handheld devices or digital job management systems
* Strong attention to detail and commitment to safe working practices
* Flexible and willing to travel across Kent
* Full UK driving licence

To drive a Mears vehicle, you must be aged over 21, have held your licence for over 3 months, and have fewer than 9 points.
