LOCATION: Salford - Dock House (1 day a week in the office)
PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £45,000 - £55,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Join Engineering Enablement to help shape the BBC’s cloud platform, enabling teams across the organisation to build reliable, secure and scalable services at speed. As a Software Engineer, you’ll enhance core tooling and automation used hundreds of times a day, contributing to a modern, digital-led BBC. Your work will support products used by millions globally and empower technology teams across content creation, media pipelines and audience‑facing experiences.

Your Key Responsibilities And Impact
* Build, enhance and maintain platform tooling that enables secure, scalable and automated cloud operations across the BBC’s AWS estate.
* Collaborate within an agile team to design and deliver solutions that support hundreds of AWS accounts and thousands of internal users.
* Automate the lifecycle of AWS accounts with pre-configured security postures and guardrails.
* Develop tools that identify cloud risks and surface insights through centralised online platforms.
* Contribute to the creation and evolution of BBC‑tailored cloud platform products for engineering teams across the organisation.
Essential Criteria
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Strong experience with compute environments such as AWS Lambda, containers and EC2.
* Solid understanding of AWS networking and service discovery solutions.
* Demonstrable DevOps approach to building, deploying and maintaining services.
* Proficiency in at least one core programming language: Python, JavaScript/TypeScript or Java.
* Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally using CloudFormation.
Desired But Not Required
* Current AWS certification.
* Broad appreciation of the wider AWS product ecosystem.
* Demonstrable experience writing, testing and documenting maintainable software within collaborative environments.
* Knowledge of Internet protocols.
* Understanding of software build and packaging mechanisms (package managers, dependency or repository management).
