Department of Radiotherapy Physics
Clinical Support Services 6
Two posts:
Specialist Medical Physics Technologist (Dosimetrist)
Band 6: £41,608 - £50,702 per annum
Full-time fixed-term contract for 12 months
NHS Grampian is seeking two dosimetrists, or therapy radiographers with treatment planning experience, to join our radiotherapy treatment planning team situated on the Foresterhill campus, Aberdeen. The successful candidates will be involved in the production of computerised treatment plans, QA activities on our linear accelerators, patient-specific QA, and a range of other clinical activities required for the support of the Radiotherapy Service.
The Service delivers approximately 1,840 treatment courses per year and is equipped with cutting-edge technology. Facilities include: two adaptive-capable Ethos linear accelerators; two TrueBeam linear accelerators (one with HyperSight and 6DoF couch); a Canon Aquilion Exceed CT scanner; an Aria patient information system; an Eclipse treatment planning system; a Limbus AI contouring system; and a GammaMed Plus HDR Brachytherapy Unit. VisionRT Surface Guidance Systems will shortly be installed on three linear accelerators and the HDR unit will be replaced later this financial year.
The Department delivers SABR for all anatomical sites and it is a leading centre in Scotland for treatment of oligo-metastatic disease. In addition, we are one of only a handful of centres in the UK capable of delivering on-line adaptive radiotherapy, which we offer for suitable head & neck, bladder, and cervical cancer patients. All radiotherapy treatments are delivered using VMAT or IMRT, including same-day palliative treatments.
These posts require a good Honours Degree in an appropriate discipline. Applicants should be eligible for the Register of Clinical Technologists or be HCPC registered as a therapeutic radiographer. However, exceptional candidates who do not currently meet these registration requirements will be considered for appointment at band 5 (£31,892 - £39,735 per annum); an MSc from an IPEM accredited Medical Physics programme would be a definite advantage in this case.
NHS Grampian’s Medical Physics Department puts science at the core of service delivery through innovation, learning and excellence; it has a long history of innovation and research and continues to produce research of the highest quality.
We encourage informal enquiries, which can be directed to Dr Andrew Bromiley, Head of Radiotherapy Treatment Planning, on 01224 558196 (andrew.bromiley@nhs.scot) or Ms Kirsten Russell, Lead Dosimetrist, on 01224 554925 (kirsten.russell2@nhs.scot).
Interviews will take place 30/06/2025
