Position:

The Director of Development and Innovation is a key position in ensuring that IChemE excels in continually evolving and improving a diverse portfolio of dynamic, innovative and effective products and services benefiting members, the wider chemical and process engineering community and society. The Director will help drive a culture of innovation and development – enabling the Institution to continually grow its reach and impact. This includes identifying new opportunities, overseeing research and development (R&D) impacting positively on members and society and developing partnerships to enhance the IChemE's standing, effectiveness and competitiveness globally.

The Director of Development and Innovation will be a visionary leader, committed to the purpose, vision and mission of IChemE and to providing – among other services - world-leading training, events, publications, professional learning and other opportunities to advance chemical and process engineering and engineers worldwide. They will have proven commercial, innovation and entrepreneurial skills, able to work effectively across and beyond IChemE to create meaningful collaborations which deliver results. They will be committed to driving positive change whilst continuing to provide all stakeholders with the products and support they require to engineer a safer and more sustainable world.

Requirements:

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:


* As a senior role in IChemE, the Director of Development and Innovation has a key part to play in the Institution meeting the ambitions set out in Strategy28+-“Engineering a sustainable world”. The formation of the Development and Innovation Directorate is a key step in achieving this vision by ensuring the Institution develops and evolves in ways which are financially and operationally sustainable while continuing to provide members, non-members, and partner organisations with support for existing and future needs.
* A key responsibility is to ensure IChemE remains at the forefront of innovative products, services and thinking across its operations. This includes developing and delivering a strategy to deliver a sustainable, innovative and constantly evolving portfolio of products, services, events, professional learning and other opportunities, positioning IChemE firmly as “the provider of choice” to individuals, organisations and communities associated with and/or which can benefit from chemical and process engineering approaches.
* The Director will work closely with the IChemE CEO, Board of Trustees and others, develop, agree and implement an ambitious strategy for development of and innovation in IChemE products and services, enabling the Institution to fulfil its full potential in terms of reach, impact, financial performance and long-term sustainability.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Delivering an ambitious business plan across the portfolio, delivering sustainable growth and strong financial and operational performance alongside consistently high and improving levels of customer satisfaction.
* Identifying, assessing and capitalising on appropriate business opportunities to increase revenue, profitability and impact. This includes leading and overseeing development projects, ensuring timely and budget-friendly execution and securing funding and support for R&D initiatives where appropriate.
* Collaborating across IChemE and beyond to continually refine, improve and enhance product and service offerings. Where appropriate, ‘pushing boundaries’ to challenge and continuously improve standards for individuals, organisations and the profession.
* Fostering a culture of creativity, problem-solving, and continuous improvement across the Institution, including an ability to Identify and assess emerging trends, technologies, and opportunities for growth.
* Championing innovation and agility across IChemE, building capacity and ambition of individuals, teams and volunteers to deliver world-leading products, services and support.
* Building relationships with key stakeholders, including government, industry, universities, Employee Partners, business associations and thought leaders.

Line management

* The Director, Development and Innovation, is a senior role reporting to the CEO, working closely with the Board of Trustees, IChemE staff, volunteers and others.
* In the first instance, the following posts will report to the Director, Development and Innovation:
o Associate Director, Commercial – with responsibility for successful delivery(to time, revenue & surplus and participation targets) of IChemE’s ‘paid for training’ and key external events (Hazards conference, Awards Dinner, etc.)
o Managing Editor Journals – responsible for delivery of key IChemE publications and on-going development of the portfolio
o Editor of The Chemical Engineer (TCE) – responsible for the delivery of IChemE’s member magazine.
o Head of Policy & Impact – responsible for engagement with various stakeholders to further the understanding of chemical and process engineering, and for having IChemE’s and its members voices sought and heard on key issues and major challenges facing society.
Other information:

This is a permanent, full-time role based on 37.5 hours per week working Monday through to Friday.

Starting salary will be circa £100,000 per annum (depending on experience) plus benefits which includes an excellent pension scheme.
