Senior Consultant - Environmental Permitting
Location: St Helens
What You’ll Be Doing
Project Leadership & Technical Delivery
* Lead the development and delivery of complex environmental permitting projects
* Manage technical outputs—risk assessments, environmental permit applications, and regulatory submissions
* Apply risk assessment tools (e.g. LandSim, H1) and understand how permitting interacts with environmental legislation
Team & Client Management
* Support and mentor junior staff across project phases
* Oversee task allocation, QA/QC processes, and knowledge transfer
* Maintain and grow client relationships; provide strategic advice to stakeholders and regulators
Business Development & Strategic Growth
* Prepare technical proposals, quotes, and fee estimates
* Identify and secure new opportunities through existing and emerging client networks
* Support growth of the Environmental Permitting team across the UK
Requirements
What You’ll Need
* BSc in Environmental Science, Geography, Geology, Civil Engineering, or related field
* 10+ years’ experience in environmental consultancy or regulatory sectors
* Deep understanding of UK environmental permitting frameworks and risk-based approaches
* Proficiency with MS Word and Excel; confident in report writing and data management
* Strong project management and communication skills
* Experience with Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and Quality Management Systems (QMS)
* MSc or relevant higher qualification
* Chartered status (e.g., CIWEM, IEMA, or similar)
