Job Purpose
To provide technical support to the Design Technology department, ensuring the smooth running of practical lessons and the maintenance of all equipment. The main duties include supporting teachers and students during lessons, preparing materials and equipment for Design Technology lessons, and inspecting and maintaining equipment.
Key Accountabilities
* Preparing materials for practical lessons.
* Preparing and setting up classroom equipment, including the operation of machinery.
* Supporting pupils during lessons under the direction of the class teacher.
* Ordering supplies, keeping a check on stock, and recording supplies when received at school.
* Providing administrative support as necessary.
* Conducting periodic safety checks on equipment and ensuring compliance with Health and Safety protocols.
* Cleaning equipment and areas after use, maintaining cleanliness and tidiness of Design Technology rooms and equipment.
* Assisting pupils in the use of equipment, including ICT systems.
* Providing support for the teacher during practical lessons, including advising students on safety aspects of particular practical work.
* Working as part of a team within the Design and Technology Department, assisting each other as required.
* Logging issues with the site team in a timely manner and ensuring safety checks are conducted in line with Health and Safety policies.
* Ensuring all equipment is accounted for, in the correct place and replaced where necessary.
* Carrying out photocopying of resources as requested.
* Assisting with preparation of departmental documentation.
* Assisting with preparation of displays of students’ work.
* Providing support and expertise to other departments and whole‑school events/displays when requested.
* Supporting the department during Open Evening each year.
