About This Opportunity:

We are currently recruiting for an Engineering Lead to join our team. The role will be based at Theale and Aldermaston / Burghfield (Hybrid) .

The Engineering lead will govern, and strengthen multi-disciplinary engineering capabilities across Amentum nuclear, defence, and high-hazard engineering programmes and projects. This role ensures efficient design implementation, technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and safe engineered solutions across all project phases, with nuclear safety culture and organisational goals. Ensuring effective design solutions implementation and supporting engineering leads within the delivery projects. Supporting resolution of technical, regulatory and client challenges. Building effective relationships with client engineering and safety case leads.

Responsibilities:

Leadership & Governance

* Ensure cohesion of engineering delivery strategies across Amentum projects consistent withcontractual requirements and Amentum processes.

* Chair engineering governance boards, design reviews, and readiness assessments.

* Ensure organisational understanding of Nuclear Site License Conditions and client arrangements in delivery of engineering solutions. ONR/EA regulatory direction, expectations, and industry standards.

* Lead engineering workforce planning, competence development and succession strategy.

Engineering Delivery & Technical Assurance

* Support engineering leadership within projects in development of appropriate design management strategies to ensure project success.

* Ensure rigorous design assurance processes are in place, compliant with quality requirements and client specification.

* Oversee projects effective integration across civil, mechanical, electrical, control & instrumentation, process, and safety engineering.

* Provide subject matter leadership during audits, safety case development, HAZOPs, and technical reviews.

* Develop and oversee KPIs to assure engineering delivery performance.

Safety, Regulation & Quality Management

* Instill a strong nuclear safety culture across engineering teams.

* Establish robust processes for technical assurance, verification, validation, and configuration control.

* Lead lessons learned, continuous improvement, and root-cause investigations.

Stakeholder, Client & Supply Chain Engagement

* Act as the senior engineering representative to clients, regulators, and suppliers.

* Support major tenders, technical specifications, and contract engineering requirements.

* Build strong working relationships across internal and external project teams.

Resource, People & Capability Management

* Lead, mentor, and develop discipline engineering leads, design authorities, and technical experts.

* Promote a culture of excellence, accountability, and innovation.

Innovation, Digital Engineering & Continuous Improvement

* Drive adoption of digital engineering tools (BIM, digital twins, systems engineering).

* Support R&D initiatives and deployment of advanced engineering methods.

* Improve engineering efficiency through standardisation and automation.

* Interface effectively across engineering functions across E&EI

Here's What You'll Need:

* Extensive engineering leadership experience within nuclear, defence, or complex regulated industries.

* This role will require security clearance, therefore applicants should hold or be able to obtain security clearance in the UK.

* Proven leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering major projects.

* Deep understanding of engineering governance, nuclear safety, and regulatory frameworks.

* Strong technical assurance and engineering lifecycle experience.

* Experience engaging regulators, clients, and major partners.

* Chartered Engineer (CEng).

Desirable:

* Fellow of a recognised engineering institution.

* Degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Nuclear, Systems).

* Postgraduate qualifications (MSc/MEng/MBA).
