Devon County Council is seeking a visionary Assistant Director – Business Services to shape and deliver our Property, Facilities Management and Business Support services, overseeing day to day operations but also driving innovation and leading service transformation across a complex and ambitious organisation. About the Role
As a senior leader reporting to the Director of Transformation and Business Services, you’ll:
1. Lead strategic and operational services for the Council including Property, Facilities Management and Business Support.
2. Drive customer-centric business support services across the Council.Oversee an annual budget of c£5m with influence and input into directorate and organisational multi-disciplinary teams.
3. Influence corporate strategy and contribute to our One Council approach.Support the priorities of the Directorate and wider Council as part of the Council’s Extended Leadership Team.
This role is pivotal in ensuring we drive forward change and transformation and that we have safe, well managed and financially sustainable property assets. You will lead the Property Change Programme to ensure we have a financially sustainable property portfolio and oversee the delivery of our disposal programme. For our business support services across the Council you will lead a service working across the County supporting Children’s and Adult’s services to deliver the best outcomes for the most vulnerable. You will embrace our ‘One Council’ approach and as part of Transformation and Business Services Leadership Team you will support agile working, deliver improved service outcomes and embed innovation and efficiency across different areas of the Council.
Whilst you’ll have oversight of Property, Facilities Management and Business Support services operationally, of equal importance is your ability to lead and direct colleagues across a multi-disciplinary service, leading change and developing collaborative working relationships with our partners, elected members and staff.
You’ll have the opportunity to attend Strategic Leadership Team and Director level Board meetings on a regular basis and will use your presentation and reporting skills attending Committee meetings including Cabinet and Scrutiny.

About You
You’re a senior leader with the ability to oversee and direct operational services alongside demonstrable experience of working and collaborating across an organisation at a strategic level and with a demonstrable track record of leading change. You bring:
8. Senior leadership experience in Property, Facilities Management and Business Support Services and/or evidence of leading support services in a large organisation.
9. Strong financial acumen and political awareness
10. A passion for innovation, inclusion, and public service
