Independent Advocate Apprenticeship Vacancies

Level 4 Independent Advocacy Qualification

CADMHAS is a registered charity providing community advocacy, statutory advocacy (Independent Mental Health Advocacy and Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy), and Relevant Person Representative services across North Wales and Powys.

We are seeking to appoint three advocates to work across different statutory advocacy projects – two posts within the Independent Mental Capacity Advocacy (IMCA) service (under the Mental Capacity Act 2005) and one post within the Independent Mental Health Advocacy (IMHA) service (under the Mental Health Act Applicants may apply for one role, outlining their suitability, or for both, demonstrating they meet the specific requirements for each service.

1. Independent Mental Capacity Advocate (IMCA) – 37 hours per week

Two Vacancies- working primarily in different areas with travel across North Wales; one covering Gwynedd & Ynys Môn and the other covering Conwy & Denbighshire.

Purpose of the role:

To provide statutory advocacy for people who have been assessed as lacking capacity to make specific decisions, in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act 2005. This includes:

· Serious Medical Treatment decisions

· Change of accommodation

· Safeguarding cases

· Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)

· Care reviews

You will ensure the person's wishes, feelings, beliefs, and values are heard and considered in best interest decisions.

Key points:

· Starting salary: £24,826 per annum, rising to £26,303 on completion of the Diploma

· Full-time, 37 hours per week

· Welsh language skills highly desirable but not essential

· Full driving licence and own vehicle required

2. Independent Mental Health Advocate (IMHA) – 37 hours per week

One Vacancy– working primarily in Gwynedd & Ynys Môn, with travel across North Wales.

Purpose of the role:

To provide statutory advocacy for qualifying patients under the Mental Health Act 1983 ensuring they are aware of, and can exercise, their rights. This includes:

· Helping clients understand their legal rights and treatment options

· Supporting participation in care and treatment decisions

· Representing clients in meetings and hearings when needed

Key points:

· Starting salary: £24,826 per annum, rising to £26,303 on completion of the Diploma

· Full-time, 37 hours per week

· Welsh language skills highly desirable but not essential

· Full driving licence and own vehicle required

About the Apprenticeship

Both roles form part of the Level 4 Independent Advocacy Apprenticeship (specialist modules in IMCA or IMHA as appropriate). This will involve:

· Virtual college attendance approximately 2 days per month

· Completion of coursework alongside practical casework

· Diploma must be achieved within 18 months (training costs covered by CADMHAS)

· Applicants must hold a grade C or above at GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths. If you do not currently meet this requirement, you will be required to complete Essential Skills qualifications in English and/or Maths as part of the apprenticeship programme.

For both roles, you will need:

· An understanding of advocacy and a commitment to empowering service users

· Excellent communication, listening, and negotiation skills

· The ability to work independently and as part of a team

· Good organisational skills and accurate record-keeping

· Computer literacy (Word processing, database use, internet research)
