Waste Operations Manager (Public Sector)
VANRATH are recruiting a Waste Operations Manager for the delivery of operational and functional services including management of all Waste Depots, Waste Collection, Recycling Operations, Street Cleansing Operations, Public Toilets/Amenities and Household Recycling Centres. This will be an initial 6‑month contract.
Remuneration: £29.49 per hour, alongside holiday entitlement.
Responsibilities
- Work with the Head of Service to deliver or commission cost‑effective services.
- Ensure efficient, high quality, responsive, robust and integrated services in line with the Client's responsibilities and corporate priorities for the residents.
- Responsible for the effective delivery of operational and waste services contracts and service level agreements to ensure the Client is fulfilling its obligations under the Waste Management Plan.
- Specific operational responsibility for all 3 waste depots, including management of street cleansing, waste collection, and public facilities and operational staff.
- Liaise with staff to ensure timely and appropriate waste communications across the Borough.
- Manage and coordinate fleet services as a competent person on the Client's goods vehicles operators and bus operators licences, including management of vehicles, plant and machinery.
- Develop and deliver route optimisation and vehicle telematics to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.
- Lead the fleet replacement programme and procure fleet vehicles, plant and machinery for council‑wide service delivery.
The Ideal Person
Applicants must have a degree or postgraduate qualification.
Must be a full member of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management or obtain full membership within 18 months of appointment.
AND
Be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have three years' experience:
- In a waste or environmental management role.
- In managing a significant budget.
- In effectively managing a large and diverse workforce.
OR
Alternatively, consideration may be given to candidates who do not have the required educational qualification but can demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have five years' experience:
- In a waste or environmental management role.
- In managing a significant budget.
- In effectively managing a large and diverse workforce.
