Overview

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest NHS teaching trusts in the country. The Trust comprises four hospitals: the John Radcliffe Hospital, Churchill Hospital and Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Headington and the Horton General Hospital in Banbury. This post is part of the NHS Medical & Dental: Local Appointment nodal point 5 (MT05). It is a fixed-term contract for 12 months and open to full-time or part-time applicants (including job share). The role is based primarily at the Churchill Hospital but may require travel to other Trust locations.


Main duties of the job

* Take part in the rota to staff routine telemedicine sexual health clinics (supervision level appropriate to experience and competence).
* Provide holistic sexual health care including contraception, STI testing, management of sexually transmitted infections, provision of PEPSE, sexual health advice and health promotion with appropriate supervision.
* Work as part of the multidisciplinary sexual health team, participate in governance meetings, quality improvement projects, audits and service developments.
* Occasional Saturdays may be required.
* Assist with clinical administration, e.g., results checking, diagnosing episodes for GUMCAD reports, entering data for SHRAD reports, and communicating with patients and general practitioners as required.
* Maintain up-to-date statutory and mandatory training (e.g., Safeguarding of Children, Information Governance).
* Maintain confidentiality and comply with relevant regulations (e.g., VD Regulations Act and AIDS Control Act).


Person specification


Qualifications/Training

* MBBS or equivalent
* Full GMC Registration; able to commence work immediately
* Diploma of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health, UK (DFSRH) or equivalent (e.g., LoC IUT/SDI, DipGUM)


Experience

* Minimum of 2 years’ clinical experience
* Previous experience of working in a sexual health service
* Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection issues
* Experience working with young people and diverse populations
* Experience discussing sensitive issues with patients
* Clinical responsibility aligned with the role and competence


Attitude, Skills and Knowledge

* Leadership, professionalism and personal skills suitable for a specialty doctor in sexual health
* Good organisational skills, punctuality, flexibility to workload variations
* Competent in basic IT, patient-centred approach, ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
* Strong communication skills in English (spoken and written)
* Experience supervising/teaching other healthcare professionals
* Experience in clinical audit and quality improvement; lead roles in research projects
* Recent attendance at update/training within 12 months
* Experience in open-access outpatient services
* Familiarity with electronic patient record systems


Other Requirements

* Ability to travel to peripheral clinics if roster requires
* Current Driving Licence
