1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant
Support, educate, nurture
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in the life of a primary-aged pupil with additional needs, supporting them on a one-to-one basis throughout the school day. From classroom learning to local school trips, such as visits to a nearby farm or play centre, you'll be there to help them feel safe, understood, and part of the wider school community.
The Role
This long-term position involves supporting a child with SEND in a mainstream primary classroom. You'll provide consistent, individualised assistance throughout the day, helping with transitions, promoting engagement in lessons, and encouraging participation in school life. Your role may include preparing the pupil for new experiences, such as trips outside of school, and ensuring they are supported emotionally and practically to take part with confidence.
The focus will be on building a stable, trusting relationship while promoting the child's independence, communication, and learning.
The Ideal Candidate
* Holds a Teaching Assistant, Childcare or Early Years qualification (required)
* Has experience supporting children with SEND, ideally in a school or care setting
* Can provide a calm, structured presence and adapt to the needs of the individual pupil
* Understands how to promote inclusion and support emotional regulation
* Values consistency and teamwork, working closely with staff and families

The team shares a strong commitment to inclusion, and the school actively encourages every child to take part in classroom activities, outdoor learning, and wider experiences like educational visits.

* Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available
