Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with Special Interest in Oncology
Fixed Term
Applications are invited for a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with special interest in oncology, based at Newham University Hospital.
This is a whole-time locum position to cover sabbatical leave for one year, for a maximum of ten programmed activities [10 PAs].
This locum appointment requires a wide experience in General Obstetrics, Labour Ward Management and special interest in oncology. In any case, the successful candidate will be encouraged to develop other special interests based on service requirements. You will also have a role in coordinating educational programmes within Women's and Children's Health.
Main duties of the job
The duties outlined below cover the main duties of the post and may be changed in accordance with the needs of the service. The aim is to provide a high quality, accessible consultant-led services
1. To be integral to providing acute obstetrics and gynaecology services and participating in 'Hot Week' and On-call rota of 1:10.
2. To take an active role in developing evidence-based and optimal clinical management of maternal diabetes, clinical governance initiatives, participate in multidisciplinary audit, clinical effectiveness initiatives and risk management.
3. To have regard at all times to the clinical and quality standards set out in the Patients' Charter and the local purchasers' contracts.
4. To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with General Practitioners, community services, and all healthcare agencies.
5. To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work with the specialties, working closely and regularly with the consultant medical staff.
6. To provide leadership in teaching and clinical research.
7. To be up to date in statutory and mandatory training programs.
8. To maintain 'Good Medical Practice' and be in 'good standing' with the RCOG.
