Responsibilities
* Champion and maintain our Risk Management Framework, ensuring alignment with HM Treasury’s Orange Book.
* Lead the rollout of consistent risk management processes across the organisation.
* Deliver an annual programme of activities to embed good risk practices and foster a proactive risk culture.
* Provide senior leaders with clear, insightful reporting to support strategic decision‑making.
* Build trusted relationships across teams, offering expert advice and constructive challenge.
* Collaborate with other functions (e.g. Health & Safety, Programme Management) to integrate risk management into everything we do.
* Coach and support team members, helping them grow and deliver with confidence.
* Respond to incidents as part of the incident role and provide business continuity support during incidents.
Experience / Skills
* Extensive experience in risk management, with a proven track record of implementing and embedding initiatives through collaborative working.
* Comprehensive understanding of the Orange Book and risk governance and assurance principles.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience providing expert risk advice to senior leaders.
* Adept at building strong, trusted relationships across all levels while challenging firmly and constructively.
* Experience working in a complex, fast‑paced environment, adapting quickly to changing circumstances and managing competing priorities.
* Experience of working in other risk‑based functions such as project or programme management, health and safety (optional).
* A risk management qualification or relevant professional membership (e.g. IRMCert) is desirable.
Location: hybrid role; based at any Environment Agency office with travel to national meetings and some overnight stays.
Schedule: full‑time with flexible working patterns, including job share. The role is available from 7 November 2025; interviews scheduled for the week commencing 1 December via MS Teams.
