We are looking for an experienced Senior Ledger Clerk to oversee payment operations within a fast‑paced construction environment. The role includes responsibility for both purchase and sales ledgers, leading a small team and ensuring accurate, timely processing to support cashflow and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and support the ledger/payment team (2 staff)
Process supplier, subcontractor and employee payments accurately and on time
Validate invoices, certificates, valuations and payment schedules
Ensure compliance with CIS, internal controls and payment terms
Maintain monthly supplier and subcontractor reconciliations
Oversee sales ledger accuracy, customer invoicing and debt monitoring
Support cashflow forecasting, month‑end, year‑end and audit processes
Produce aged creditor/debtor and payment reports
Liaise with commercial, project and procurement teams to resolve queries
Support system improvements and cover team duties during holidaysSkills & Experience
Proven experience in payments or accounts payable within construction
Strong knowledge of CIS, retentions and construction valuations
High level of accuracy with strong numerical and analytical skills
Confident using accounting systems and Excel
Strong communication, organisation and team‑working skills
AAT qualified (or equivalent experience)
