Department The School for Business and Society is an interdisciplinary school, combining the collective strengths from the University of York Management School and the Department of Social Policy & Social Work. It provides a unique opportunity, working collectively with staff and students and our partners to pioneer impactful interdisciplinary research and teaching for public good, delivering inclusive growth. We wish to appoint a Lecturer in Social Work to provide teaching and teaching-related activities such as personal supervision and marking. Role The roleholder will contribute to teaching on our Social Work programmes and Practice Education modules and will also support the planning and organisation of the provision of professional placements and associated activities. You will have an existing network within social work practice and will be able to demonstrate an understanding of current issues and models of practice in social work. You will have an interest in supporting students’ own development objectives via rigorous, interactive learning. You will be a Practice Educator and able to support Practice Educators in their training. You will be a team player who works collaboratively, flexibly and reliably, and will work alongside an experienced and supportive team of colleagues. You will be prepared to contribute to administrative tasks contributing to the internal, strategic management of our activity. Skills, Experience & Qualifications needed PhD in Social Work / related fields or equivalent experience and a Practice Education qualification. You will have specific and up to date knowledge in policy and practice relating to social work practice. You will have experience in teaching and learning in HE at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level or in an evidenced similar context; of using different delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students; and will be able to evidence successful planning and designing teaching material. You will have highly developed communication skills, both orally and in writing, the ability to design and deliver teaching material either across a range of modules or within a subject area, supervise the work of students, provide advice on study skills and assist with learning problems and manage and deliver your own teaching. You will have attention to detail and commitment to high quality, creativity, initiative and judgement in applying appropriate approaches to teaching and learning support, a collaborative ethos and positive attitude to colleagues and students, a willingness to work proactively with colleagues in other work areas/institutions and the ability to plan and prioritise own work in order to meet deadlines.
