Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
This role involves demonstrating specialist clinical skills in assessing and intervening in language disorders, including Developmental Language Disorder and language disorders associated with biomedical conditions such as Down Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy.
The therapist will contribute to clinical care pathways, make differential diagnoses based on assessments, and produce timely reports and care plans for service users and agencies. They will utilize evidence-based practices and outcome measures to ensure high clinical effectiveness.
The role requires sharing expertise with team members, monitoring therapy progress, and adapting interventions to meet individual client needs, including cultural and linguistic considerations. Maintaining concentration during patient management and involving families, carers, educators, and other professionals in therapy programs are essential.
Therapists will work within an integrated team, collaborating with educators and assistants to deliver planned interventions, and develop partnerships with other agencies to ensure seamless care pathways. They will manage a clinical caseload, participate in training development, and respond to legislative requirements through detailed reports for plans like Education Health Care Plans and transition planning.
Supervision of junior staff, ongoing service evaluation, and professional accountability are key responsibilities. Flexibility in work patterns, leading work groups, attending multi-professional meetings, and advising on service issues are also expected. The role includes referring to other agencies as needed.
