Overview
VolkerHighways is a market leader in the delivery of highways and street lighting term maintenance contracts. We build strong collaborative relationships with our clients to drive improvements and efficiency in all our activities. We have the capability to deliver major surfacing and public realm infrastructure projects. Our specialist in-house traffic management division provides expert advice and support across the industry, whilst assisting with our own, in-house contracts. You will play a key role in ensuring VolkerHighways meets all environmental legislation and corporate requirements, driving pollution prevention, carbon reduction, waste minimisation, and biodiversity protection. You will help raise environmental awareness across the business, coordinate internal planning meetings, inspections and audits, and support the development and maintenance of our Environmental Management System (EMS).
Responsibilities
* Help raise environmental awareness across the business.
* Coordinate internal planning meetings, inspections and audits related to the Environmental Management System (EMS).
* Support the development and maintenance of the EMS to ensure compliance with environmental legislation and corporate requirements.
* Provide environmental guidance to colleagues and project teams to drive pollution prevention, carbon reduction and waste minimisation.
Qualifications
* Relevant experience in Highways Term Maintenance.
* An Associate member of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) and a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv).
* A qualified internal environmental auditor with demonstrable experience of completing internal audits. Lead Auditor status beneficial but not essential.
* Understanding of the requirements of BS EN ISO 14001:2004/2015 and experience in facilitating registration surveillance visits.
* An Affiliate member of the Chartered Institute of Waste Management (CIWM).
* A working knowledge of current and impending environmental legislation.
* Self-confidence to build strong working relationships internally and externally.
