PAS 9980 / FRAEW Surveyor – Edinburgh & Glasgow
Our client is a market-leading fire-safety consultancy delivering specialist services across complex residential environments including high-rise residential buildings and housing portfolios.
They support housing providers, councils, and developers with advanced fire-engineering and façade risk assessments.
As part of their continued growth in external wall safety services, they are seeking a PAS 9980 / FRAEW Surveyor to join their technical team and support Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls (FRAEW) across Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The role offers the opportunity to work on national remediation programmes and high-profile residential portfolios, helping ensure buildings meet the latest safety standards.
Our client would also be interested in speaking with Fire Consultants who have experience with Step 1 and/or Steps 1–5 of the FRAEW / PAS 9980 surveying process. Training and development will be provided for candidates looking to further develop their expertise in external wall assessments.
Key Responsibilities
• Carry out Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls (FRAEW) in accordance with PAS 9980.
• Undertake site surveys of external wall systems, including cladding, insulation, cavity barriers, balconies, and façade attachments.
• Assess the fire performance of external wall construction and identify risks related to fire spread and occupant safety.
• Produce technical reports and risk assessments, providing clear conclusions and proportionate remediation recommendations.
• Work alongside fire engineers, façade specialists, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust fire safety strategies.
• Liaise professionally with clients, building managers, residents, contractors, and regulatory stakeholders.
• Support intrusive investigations and façade inspections where required to confirm materials and construction details.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of fire safety legislation and industry guidance following the Building Safety reforms.
About You
• Experience undertaking PAS 9980 / FRAEW assessments or façade fire risk assessments.
• Strong understanding of external wall construction, including cladding systems and passive fire protection.
• Knowledge of UK fire safety legislation including Fire Safety Act 2021 and Building Safety Act 2022.
• Degree or professional background in Fire Engineering, Building Surveying, Architecture, or Façade Engineering.
• Membership or working toward membership of a relevant professional body such as the Institution of Fire Engineers or Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
• Strong report-writing skills and ability to communicate complex technical findings clearly.
