The Role
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team. You will work directly with students who have a range of special educational needs, helping them access the curriculum and develop essential life skills.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with diverse SEN requirements
2. Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated lessons
3. Support students with personal care needs where appropriate
4. Help develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs)
5. Encourage student independence and social skills development
6. Assist with behaviour management using positive reinforcement strategies
7. Support students during breaks, lunchtimes, and school activities
8. Maintain accurate records of student progress and incidents
9. Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and external professionals
Essential Requirements
10. Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN
11. Understanding of different types of learning difficulties and disabilities
12. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
13. Patience, empathy, and resilience
14. Ability to work as part of a team and independently
15. Flexibility and adaptability to meet diverse student needs
16. Commitment to safeguarding and promoting student welfare
Desirable Qualifications
17. Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
18. Training in specific SEN areas (Autism, ADHD, etc.)
19. First Aid certification
20. Experience in a secondary school environment
21. Knowledge of Makaton or other communication systems
