About the Role
This role is designed for an experienced, IP Optometrist with a proven specialism in glaucoma and significant post-registration clinical experience. You will be confident working autonomously within advanced clinical pathways and managing patients with complex ocular disease.
You will deliver high-quality, independent eye care, with acknowledged expertise in glaucoma assessment and management. You will play a key role in shared-care and hospital-based services, ensuring patients fully understand their diagnosis, management options, and treatment outcomes, while providing continuity and reassurance throughout their clinical journey.
We are looking for someone who can:
Independently assess, monitor, and manage patients within glaucoma clinics, including complex and progressing cases.
Interpret and act upon clinical investigations including OCT, visual fields, pachymetry, gonioscopy, and IOP assessment
Provide clear, patient-centred explanations of diagnoses, management plans, and the risks and benefits of treatment
Ensure safe, effective post-operative care in collaboration with ophthalmologists and the wider multidisciplinary team
Undertake YAG laser capsulotomy following appropriate training and accreditation (where applicable)
Who We Are Looking For
GOC-registered Optometrist with significant post-registration experience
Advanced glaucoma qualification (e.g. Professional Certificate / Higher Certificate / Diploma) or equivalent demonstrable experience.
Independent Prescribing (IP) Qualification
Extensive experience working in glaucoma clinics or glaucoma shared-care services
High level of clinical autonomy and confident decision-making
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong patient-centred approach
Strong organisational skills and attention to clinical detail
Thorough understanding of clinical governance and commitment to delivering the highest standards of care
