The Cardiff School of Technologies at Cardiff Metropolitan University is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to support an innovative research project focused on intelligent sensing and AI-enabled technologies for improving hygiene practices and food safety monitoring. The project explores the development and testing of sensor-based systems capable of analysing behavioural and environmental data to support safer practices in food preparation and manufacturing environments.
You’ll Play a Key Role In
* Supporting the development and testing of intelligent sensing systems and experimental prototypes.
* Assisting with research activities involving embedded devices, sensors, and data acquisition systems.
* Contributing to the application of artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques for analysing behavioural and environmental data.
* Supporting experimental trials and system evaluation in laboratory and applied research settings.
* Assisting with literature reviews, data analysis, and research reporting.
* Contributing to the dissemination of research findings through reports, publications, and presentations.
What You’ll Bring
You will have a strong interest in applied research involving intelligent technologies and data-driven systems. You will be comfortable working with both hardware and software components and contributing to experimental research activities within a collaborative academic environment.
In Particular, You Will Bring
* A good honours degree (2:1 or above) in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline.
* Knowledge of intelligent sensing technologies, embedded systems, or IoT devices.
* Familiarity with programming and working with modern hardware platforms such as GPU-enabled boards (e.g., NVIDIA Jetson) or similar embedded computing platforms, including integration with sensors or intelligent devices for data acquisition and system testing.
* An understanding of artificial intelligence, machine learning, or machine vision techniques relevant to sensor-based or camera-based monitoring systems and data analysis.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to support experimental research and data interpretation.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
