SLR has a fantastic opportunity for a Structural Engineer with a foundation of design experience looking to progress and join its busy Civil & Structural Engineering team at Senior grade. The successful applicant will be based in either our Glasgow or Edinburgh office and support the existing civil & structural engineering team. The candidate will act as lead designer and/or checker on projects across the built environment, power, industry and infrastructure sectors.
SLR’s Engineering Team delivers expertise across diverse sectors including Water, Mining, Waste, Power, Infrastructure and the Built Environment, supporting clients at all project stages from planning to commercial delivery.
Responsibilities
* Lead on projects or act as a checker on multiple projects across the built environment, power, industry and infrastructure sectors.
* Deliver projects independently and within a team to support proposal development and client interfaces.
* Mentor and coach other engineers within the team; support sector and client leads across the business.
* Write proposals and manage client relationships; contribute to project management and programme management.
* Coordinate development and preparation of technical specifications; prepare tender packages and assist with tender evaluation.
* Provide commercial support throughout the lifecycle of a project.

About The Role
As a multidisciplinary consultancy with a "one team" culture, you will work closely with other disciplines and have opportunities to work on exciting challenges. You will have the opportunity to travel across Europe and internationally. If successful, you will work independently and within a team to deliver projects and assist with proposal development. You will lead on smaller projects, manage aspects of larger projects, write proposals, manage clients, and interface with clients. You will mentor and coach engineers within the team and support sector and client leads across the business. We have active training schemes for ICE and IStructE Chartership routes.
About You
* A solid track record delivering design projects in UK structural engineering.
* Strong knowledge of materials (timber, steel, concrete, masonry), with emphasis on timber and steel.
* Interest in leading and managing teams; proposal and tender writing experience is advantageous with training provided.
* Project management, organisational, communication and interpersonal skills.
* Knowledge of UK engineering guidance including British Standards and Eurocodes.
* Site inspection/structural assessment and reporting experience; knowledge of ground investigation and soil mechanics.
* Proficiency in structural design software, particularly Tekla Structural Designer and Tekla Tedds.
* Preparation of drawings using AutoCAD is advantageous.
* Relevant degree in Civil/Structural Engineering; near Chartered with IStructE or ICE.
* Must have a full, current UK driving licence.
* Knowledge of BIM, REVIT or similar 3D modelling software is advantageous.
