Legal Services | Devon County Council
Are you highly organised, calm under pressure and interested in working at the heart of a busy and varied legal service that supports communities across Devon?
We’re looking for a Legal Assistant to join Devon County Council’s Legal Services team. This is a varied and rewarding role, providing essential administrative and legal support across a wide range of legal areas, including childcare and adult social care, property and highways work, contracts and procurement, employment law and litigation.
About the role
As a Legal Assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting lawyers and specialist teams to deliver high-quality legal services to the Council. Your work will include managing case files, preparing court bundles, diarising key dates, liaising with counsel and clerks, drafting correspondence and assisting with straightforward legal documents under supervision.
You’ll work closely with colleagues across Legal Services and the wider Council, often juggling competing priorities and deadlines, so strong organisation, attention to detail and the ability to remain calm are essential.
This role requires the confidence and fluency to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role in English.
About you
We’re keen to hear from people who:
1. Have experience working in an office environment, ideally within a legal or professional services setting
2. Are highly organised, self-motivated and able to manage their own workload
3. Communicate clearly and professionally, both in writing and on the telephone
4. Are confident using IT systems, including Microsoft Office and databases
5. Can work effectively as part of a team but are also comfortable working independently
6. Approach challenges with a “can-do” attitude and attention to detail
You’ll be educated to GCSE level (or equivalent), including English and Maths, and will have suitable experience working in a legal or professional services environment.
