Role / Job Title: Lids Engineer Work Location: Gaydon / Whitley, UK (Onsite) Must-Have: Strong understanding of hood/fender design, joining techniques, and surface quality standards.
Familiarity with CAD tools (CATIA/NX), GD&T, and BIW measurement systems.
Experience in BIW or exterior panel launch roles.
Excellent problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills.
A degree or diploma in a relevant engineering discipline, such as Mechanical, Automobile, or Manufacturing, is typically required.
Good-to-Have: Experience with premium vehicle programs and aluminum panel launches.
Knowledge of stamping, hemming, and corrosion protection processes.
Ability to work in fast-paced launch environments and manage multiple priorities.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Responsibilities / Expectations from the Role: Lead the launch of hood and fender components across pre-production builds and final production ramp-up.
Ensure tooling, fixtures, and joining processes (e.g., welding, hemming, bonding) are validated and production-ready.
Track build issues and drive resolution through cross-functional teams.
Collaborate with Body Shop teams to optimize assembly sequences, weld access, and part handling.
Validate dimensional accuracy and fit of hood/fender assemblies using measurement reports and BIW gauges.
Support static sealing, fastener installation, and surface finish quality checks.
Work with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of parts and sub-assemblies with acceptable quality.
Monitor incoming part quality and escalate issues through the launch quality process.
Support part approval processes including PPAP, PSW, and run-at-rate events.
Maintain launch scorecards, open issue trackers, and daily build reports.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for build and quality concerns.
Present status updates to program leadership and escalate risks proactively.
