This role covers all aspects of the product lifecycle, from architecting and requirements through to concept studies, design and development, verification and validation and integration into the wider system. About the role The engineer would be responsible for the design, development and verification of video-processing firmware for FPGAs in close collaboration with the Systems, Electronics and Software teams. Key responsibilities Undertake design of complex FPGA modules or architectures, from concept through to system integration & qualification Lead discussions with a multi-disciplinary team (systems, mechanical, software, safety, etc) to develop an optimum solution Design firmware using VHDL or High Level Synthesis Languages Verify firmware using VHDL or Hardware Verification Languages Writing and reviewing design documentation Lead peer reviews and contribute to project design reviews Work collaboratively with the project team to ensure products meet all requirements Contribute to the development of the wider firmware team, including proposing and implementing improvements, participating in peer reviews, and sharing knowledge or good practice across the team Provide support to integration, debugging and system level testing Report progress of work against cost, schedule and performance Projects involve using the latest industry-class development tools for FPGA and System-on-Chip hardware technologies. Work is carried out to a structured firmware design process. Skills and Experience: Demonstrated experience of firmware design roles including the following: Degree in Electronics or Software engineering Development of firmware/digital design in VHDL or Verilog Verification of firmware designs using VHDL or SystemVerilog Analysis of firmware requirements and architecting a design to meet those requirements Familiarity with design flow and third-party synthesis tools, such as those from Xilinx / Intel (Altera) / Microsemi (Actel) Knowledge of FPGA architectures and design tools, such as Xilinx (Vivado/ISE), Altera (Quartus), Microsemi (Libero), Lattice (Diamond) Practical experience debugging firmware designs and supporting integration and test at hardware level Experience in writing technical reports/ documentation Ability to manage own tasks and technical activities, and guide other engineers to successful completion of their tasks Knowledge of C, C++ is an advantage Desirable to have experience with Xilinx 7 series, Ultrascale, Mentor Graphics Modelsim, QuestaSim or Cadence Incisive Desirable to have experience with image processing techniques and algorithms Good to have knowledge of Verification Methodology: UVVM, UVM Good to have knowledge of scripting languages: TCL, PERL, Python The role requires a SC clearance What can we offer you?
