About Us

The Retail Energy Code Company (RECCo) is responsible for managing and evolving the Retail Energy Code (REC), which governs the interactions of parties involved in the Great Britain retail energy market. Our mission is to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the market, promoting innovation, competition, and delivering positive outcomes for consumers. We manage a range of critical services, all aimed at driving operational efficiencies and delivering value to the industry and consumers alike.

RECCo supports a broad set of stakeholders, including energy suppliers, network operators, and metering service providers, facilitating the effective delivery of their obligations under the REC. This makes RECCo a vital player in shaping the future of the energy market.

About RECCo’s Consumer Consent

Consumer Consent is fundamental in enabling consumers to positively share data and get access to new or existing energy services which ultimately will save them money and carbon. Consumer Consent is the be designed to provide a simple and effective user experience, with user-centricity at the heart of every interaction.

As part of the industrial transformation, this Consumer Consent mechanism will not only streamline data sharing but also ensure that consumers trust is improved in energy. Consumer Consent is critical to the future of energy.

The Role

The Product Owner (PO) will be responsible for defining and executing the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Consumer Consent. Initially, the PO will focus on overseeing the design of a service which meets consumer needs. As the role transitions into business-as-usual (BAU) operations, the focus will shift to driving the continuous evolution and improvement of these services, ensuring evolving consumer needs are met and they support industry participants in fulfilling their obligations under the REC.

What you’ll do

Consumer Consent Design, Implementation and Release

* Vision and Roadmap Development: Refine and articulate the product vision and roadmap for the consumer consent service. Ensure the roadmap continues to align with business needs, user requirements, and REC’s strategic objectives through the implementation of the Consumer Consent.
* Backlog Management & Prioritisation: Own the product backlog, ensuring that features are clearly defined, prioritised based on business value, and aligned with the long-term vision of the Consumer Consent. Collaborate with the project team and service provider to translate high-level requirements into actionable user stories.
* Stakeholder Engagement: Actively engage with key internal and external stakeholders, including, but not limited to, consumers, consumer representatives, the Senior Responsible Owner (SRO), Programme Lead, and otherCode Manager Service Providers. Regularly communicate the product vision, gather feedback, and ensure alignment across all parties involved.
* Collaboration with the Consumer Consent Providers: Work closely with the Consumer Consent providers to ensure that development activities align with RECCo’s requirements. Facilitate ongoing collaboration between RECCo and the provider to ensure features meet the defined objectives and are delivered to a high standard.
* Sprint Planning Oversight: Ensure that the backlog is ready for each sprint, prioritising the most critical features. Collaborate with the Scrum Master (or equivalent) and development team to confirm that the scope of each sprint aligns with the roadmap. The Product Owner will not facilitate the sprint but will ensure the development team has clarity on priorities.
* User Story Acceptance Criteria: Define and communicate clear acceptance criteria for all user stories. Collaborate with the development team to ensure these criteria are met, ensuring features deliver the intended business value.
* Quality Assurance & Testing Oversight: While daily quality assurance activities will be led by the Quality Assurance Manager/QA team, the PO will ensure that quality expectations are communicated clearly. The PO will also review major testing outcomes to ensure they meet business requirements.
* Release Ownership: Own the product release process. Ensure that all features and solutions meet the pre-defined acceptance criteria and are ready for release. Work with stakeholders to plan release cycles, ensuring alignment with business needs and readiness for deployment.
* Product Sign-Off: Conduct final product sign-off by reviewing sprint outcomes, ensuring that all deliverables align with the product roadmap and REC’s strategic objectives. The PO is responsible for giving final approval before release.
* Sprint Demos: Lead the product demos during sprint reviews to present progress to stakeholders. Ensure the feedback loop from demos is used to refine the product and prioritisation.
* Coordination with Stakeholders on Release Readiness: Collaborate with the Business Change Manager, ensuring stakeholders are informed and prepared for the release. Ensure that any required change management or training activities are planned and communicated before the release.
* Setting Bug/Defect Resolution Limits:
* Set clear limits and guidelines for bug and defect triage, ensuring that priorities are aligned with the strategic goals of the product. The day-to-day management of bug resolution will be handled by the technical and QA teams, but the PO will ensure prioritisation aligns with business value.

Post-Implementation and go-live of Consumer Consent (Business as Usual)

* Ongoing Product Vision, Roadmap Development and Management:
* Once Consumer Consent is implemented, shift focus to continuous product improvement. Use data analytics, user feedback, and market trends to guide future development. Ensure Consumer Consent continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of stakeholders and the energy market.
* Backlog & Roadmap Management:
* Continue managing the product backlog and roadmap. Ensure new features and improvements align with long-term strategic goals and are prioritised according to business needs and user feedback.
* Performance Monitoring & Optimisation:

* User-Centric Focus:
* Maintain an ongoing focus on user-centricity, ensuring that Consumer Consent provide a simple and effective experience for both industry participants and internal stakeholders. Continuously gather feedback and drive improvements to enhance the user experience.
* Stakeholder Collaboration & Feedback Loops:
* Maintain strong relationships with stakeholders to gather ongoing feedback and ensure that future iterations of the product meet evolving business needs. Regularly engage with consumers, consumer groups, wider industry and internal teams to understand their needs and ensure the product continues to deliver value.
* Continuous Improvement:
* Establish and maintain feedback loops, using insights from user behaviour, performance data, and stakeholder input to drive product refinements and continuous improvements in service quality.
