Our client is a Building Services consultancy based in Nottingham, specialising in mechanical and electrical design across the NHS, leisure, retail, emergency services and local authorities.
About the Role
As an Electrical Design Engineer you will play a key part in a multidisciplinary project team, contributing to a variety of construction projects. Your work will span the full project lifecycle, from concept through to delivery.
Key Responsibilities
* Produce designs, calculations, specifications and tender documents for electrical services
* Ensure compliance with current regulations and industry standards
* Coordinate with internal disciplines and external specialists
* Conduct feasibility studies and prepare detailed cost estimates
* Support regulatory compliance, including Building Regulations Part L and BREEAM
* Collaborate with mechanical and energy engineers to deliver low‑energy design solutions
* Attend design and project meetings as a representative of the team
* Produce specifications, equipment schedules and fully coordinated design drawings (RIBA Stage 5)
* Perform site inspections and prepare reports
* Deliver technically sound and commercially viable solutions
* Prepare technical reports, specifications and contract documentation
* Liaise directly with clients, consultants and contractors
Essential Criteria
* Minimum 5 years experience in electrical building services design (incl. emergency lighting and fire alarms)
* Strong understanding of BS7671
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, Dialux, Relux, Amtech and/or Hevacomp
* Background in design consultancy or contracting
* Experience in general building electrical services
* HNC or equivalent qualification
* Full UK driving licence
* Strong experience in both detail and performance electrical design
* A client‑facing, confident personality with strong communication skills
Desirable Criteria
* Experience with Revit MEP or MagiCAD
* Member (or working towards membership) of IET or CIBSE
* Strong time and project management skills
* Experience in SAP/SBEM and LZC (Low Zero Carbon) reporting
