Supervising School Counsellor
Citywide
Salary: £39,129 - £46,023 (pro-rata for part-time)
Hours: 7.2 per week, 52 weeks
This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check. An unconditional offer of employment and commencement in the post will be subject to the outcome of both these pre-employment checks being deemed satisfactory.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.

Responsibilities
Experience:
* Experience of delivering counselling.
* Experience of collaboratively working with others.
* Communicating clearly with others to identify and implement supports.
* Experience of delivering counselling to 10 to 18 year olds.
* Experience of delivering counselling in an educational setting.
* Supporting GIRFEC child planning processes. (Desirable)
* Experience of listening to the views of children and young people and using them to shape practice. (Desirable)
Knowledge, skills and understanding:
* Ability to respond appropriately to ethical dilemmas, such as risk situations and disclosures, in liaison with the
* Counselling Service Team Leader.
* Understanding of health and safety requirements and child protection requirements.
* Clear understanding of the national GIRFEC framework and how it is implemented locally in Edinburgh.
* Clear written communication.
* Well-developed ICT (Information and Communications Technology) skills.
* Knowledge of the policy and legislative framework relevant to children and young people. (Desirable)
Qualifications and training:
* Holder of a recognised diploma in counselling.
* Qualification in counselling supervision.
* Qualification in counselling Children and Young People. (Desirable)
Job specific requirements:
* Have practiced as a counselling supervisor for at least 2 years.
* Experience of supervising counsellors from a range of modalities.
* PVG.
* Registered with an appropriate governing body such as BACP or COSCA.
* Accredited or working towards accreditation (Desirable)
