Job Description
General Responsibilities
Responsible for monitoring & setting of policies on Safety, Health and Environmental systems for all vessels /managed by AW Ship Management Ltd.
To maintain an up to date knowledge of the duties required by the position with regards to quality and safety management and current legislation.
Responsible for the maintenance, revision and circulation of quality, environmental and safety management documentation and ensuring that the processes and procedures contained therein are implemented and maintained.
Specific Responsibilities
Advising and assisting the on board management, of all vessels managed by AW Ship Management Ltd, with practical advice on environmental, safety & health procedures and documentation.
Co-ordinate and collate safety data including incident, near miss, learning from experience and safety flashes to capture accurate information on the safety profile of the company, producing trending and analysis for internal learning and preventative actions as well as external parties.
To advise Superintendents on HSEQ related issues in relation to the operation of all managed vessels.
To arrange and carry out regular audits of all facets of shipboard operations. To compile corrective action reports & monitor compliance. Advise Superintendents of the corrective action required and time frame.
Attend specific HSEQ committees in pursuance of the ship and company interests.
To perform inquiries and investigate accidents and dangerous occurrences.
To monitor ship’s safety returns, including accident and near-miss reporting.
To compile and distribute safety statistics.
To assist Superintendents in the production of vessel budgets where they relate to crew health, marine and safety issues.
To advise on any possible company policy changes.
Support relevant Fleet Management personnel in conducting interviews with prospective seafarers promptly and report findings.
To implement changes to office and vessel procedures ensuring that the company complies with current and proposed quality, environmental and safety management legislation.
To advise Fleet Management personnel of any amendments to quality, environmental and safety management documentation as may be necessary from time to time in the light of changing circumstances and revised international law, agreements and codes of practice.
To act as the Deputy OH&S Management Representative under the Company's ISO 45001:2018 OH&S Management System.
Liaise with crew managers on cost saving and other efficiency initiatives.
To liaise with the Insurance and Claims department in regard to H&M claims to ensure they are presented in a timely manner for recovery.
To monitor vessels Class and trading certificates to ensure timely renewal and/or survey and inform Fleet Superintendents accordingly.
To attend conferences, visit vessels and outside companies as required.
