Arrythmia Clinical nurse specialist
(Covering Maternity leave)
We have an amazing opportunity for an experienced cardiac nurse to join our world leading team at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. The post holder will deliver high-quality nursing care to patients with arrhythmia and those with implantable defibrillators and cardiac resynchronization (CRT) devices.
The post holder will have excellent communication with patients and their families, providing support and expert knowledge either in an outpatient or inpatient setting.
The post holder need to have excellent interpersonal skills within a small team of specialist nurses as well as the wider team with other members of the internal and external multidisciplinary team.
To work autonomously with your own caseload of patients with arrhythmia, to provide patients with a consultation in a nurse led clinic either with diagnosing new conditions or providing follow up post ablation clinics.
To work autonomously and collaboratively in Consultant-led arrhythmia clinics.
Will attend ward rounds and provide expert advice, knowledge and counseling to patients undergoing emergency procedures for implantable defibrillator devices also providing support to nursing staff on the ward.
To be a part and be an active member of the newest development of the service, Nurse led cardioversion service.
To undertake regular teaching, training, and mentorship of the nursing team in the provision of care for arrhythmia and device patients.
To actively participate in and promote research and service improvement and development.
The post holder will be based at Barts Heart Centre.
Main duties of the job
·The post holder will work in accordance with NMC code of professional conduct (2002)
·To deliver a high-quality nursing service to patients with arrhythmia and patients with devices.
·To work autonomously with their own caseload of patients with arrhythmia, to provide patients with a consultation in a nurse led clinic either with either diagnosing new patients conditions or providing follow up post ablation clinics.
·To work autonomously and collaboratively in Consultant-led arrhythmia clinics
·To be able to attend the ward and provide expert advice, knowledge and counseling to patients undergoing emergency procedures for implantable defibrillator devices also providing support to nursing staff on the ward.

·Run the arrhythmia advice telephone line and email, dealing with queries from patients, their families, and external practitioners
·Requesting diagnostic investigations within agreed parameters and interpreting/acting upon the results as appropriate
·Maintain clear, up-to-date, and accurate documentation in patient medical records.
·Be organised and manage time effectively between both clinical and administrative requirements
·Lead on audit and quality initiatives
·Participates in the development of evidence-based practice and will ensure that clinical practice is based on the latest available clinical evidence to provide the best patient care
·Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the Trusts programme of nursing audit and feeds back to staff and leads on effective action planning ensuring that results of evaluation are used to sustain quality
·Ensures that documentation is of high quality and is evaluated and maintained
·Evaluates the quality of own and others work and raises quality issues and related risks with the relevant people

Qualifications
Essential criteria
1. Registered Nurse
2. BSc or equivalent
3. Relevant post graduate cardiac course
4. Mentorship/ post registration teaching course
5. ECG interpretation course and experience in practice.
Desirable criteria
6. Possession of or working towards Masters
7. Physical assessment course or willing to work towards when in post
Experience
Essential criteria
8. 5 years post registration experience
9. Experience of working at AFC Band 6 or band 7 within cardiology.
10. Experience of looking after patients with arrhythmias and devices
11. Evidence of teaching and mentoring
12. Experience of patient education
13. Clinical and operational management experience.
Desirable criteria
14. Previous experience of working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist.
15. Research and audit experience.
Knowledge
Essential criteria
16. Expert Knowledge of the current guidelines for the management and treatment options of arrhythmia and patients requiring an ICD, CRT-D and S-ICD.
Desirable criteria
17. Knowledge of the inpatient and out-patient referral systems.
Skills
Essential criteria
18. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with MDT, patients, and their carers.
19. Ability to work as part of team as well as autonomously without supervision
20. Ability to prioritise and organise work to manage a caseload of patients.
21. Proven oral and written communication skills.
22. Demonstrates managerial, organisational and leadership skills
