Consultant in Cardiology – Interventional (PCI)
Full‑time post for a Consultant Cardiologist with a sub‑specialty interest in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). The position will support 11 full‑time and one part‑time cardiology consultants and will join four existing Consultant colleagues in delivering the PCI service.
Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register or within six months of admission for trainees in the UK and hold a Licence to Practice.

Main duties of the job
* Work with colleagues at both sites to support the service.
* Contribute to the 1:11 Consultant of the week model for delivering cardiology inpatient care at Calderdale Royal Hospital.
* Commit to a 1:11 cardiology on‑call service / weekend rota across the Trust (no commitment to general medicine on‑call).
* Develop personal sub‑specialty interests.
Job responsibilities
* Participate in the 1:11 Consultant of the week (COW) model, delivering cardiology inpatient care and acting as focal point for cardiology‑related queries.
* During non‑COW weeks, attend cath lab / PCI sessions, CCU ward rounds, OP clinics, weekly PCI MDT and sub‑specialty sessions, with dedicated time for admin and SPA.
* Participate in a 1‑1 on‑call out‑of‑hours rota for Cardiology (1:11 weekend on‑call).
Qualifications
* MRCP or equivalent.
* Specialist registration in Cardiology preferred (or within 6 months of registration); consideration given to consultants with relevant experience.
* Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practice.
* Relevant higher degree (MD or PhD) preferred.
Experience and Achievements
* High level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Cardiology.
* Completion of sub‑specialty training in PCI.
* Fellowship / post‑CCT experience in PCI or a complementary sub‑specialty.
* Understanding of current NHS issues.
* Attendance at a recognised management course.
* Demonstrated ability to work with and lead others across professions.
Teaching and Training
* Experience and enthusiasm for clinical teaching of postgraduate doctors and non‑medical staff.
* Formal qualification in teaching/education.
* Training in clinical and educational supervision.
* Attendance at a teaching course.
Audit and Research
* Critical appraisal skills.
* Knowledge of audit principles and evidence of participation in and completion of audit projects.
* Knowledge of research methodology.
* Good communication and empathy skills with patients.
* Willingness to participate in a multidisciplinary team environment.
* Ability to manage high‑pressure situations and prioritise workload.
* Willingness to work flexibly to deliver effective and cost‑effective care.

* Requirement for EPP clearance where applicable.
