Isaac Newton/College Junior Research Fellowship 2026
Robinson College invites applications for election to an Isaac Newton/College Junior Research Fellowship, funded by the Isaac Newton Trust, starting on 1 October 2026 for three years (to 30 September 2029). The Fellowship is open to graduates working in Economics; Education; Geography; Land Economy; Law; Politics and International Studies; Social Anthropology and Sociology. The holder is expected to pursue full-time research based in Cambridge.
The Fellowship is open to graduates of any university; there is no age limit, but it is designed to support those at an early stage in their academic careers and will normally be awarded to a candidate who has recently completed a PhD (or equivalent). Candidates are expected to have a PhD (or equivalent) by 1 October 2026.
Stipend and benefits
* The stipend is at point 31 on the academic single spine (£28,778). The post is pensionable within USS.
* Research Fellows are entitled to heavily subsidised accommodation in College, subject to availability.
* Work eligibility: candidates should check eligibility to work in the UK; visa support is available for a Global Talent Visa if required. This position is not eligible for a Skilled Worker Visa.
The Fellow becomes a member of the Governing Body of Robinson College and is expected to contribute to the College’s academic community life.
Joint application and competition
* Churchill College, Clare College, Murray Edwards College, Robinson College and Trinity Hall operate a Joint Application Scheme for Early Career Research Fellowships.
* Applications are considered by all Colleges offering Fellowships in the relevant subject. A total of eight Fellowships are offered; last year over 1300 applications were received.
