We are looking to strengthen our engineering team with a Principal Civil Engineer based in Derby, with hybrid working available.
You will report directly to the Regional Discipline Lead. Your role will be to provide high-quality engineering design services to minimize risks and maximize profits on turnkey and engineering service contracts. This involves coordinating the design process, producing design documents and drawings, and ensuring compliance with health and safety requirements, specifications, and standards.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Producing cost-effective design layouts that meet specifications and are easy to construct and commission, considering all associated costs including design, materials, erection, and the impact on other disciplines.
2. Utilizing standard practices wherever possible.
3. Maintaining competitiveness.
4. Providing estimates and feedback to the Proposals department.
5. Following procedures and processes to support departmental development.
6. Assisting in developing, monitoring, and updating procedures and processes.
7. Coordinating designs with all internal and external disciplines to ensure integrated contract execution.
8. Maintaining files and records throughout the project lifecycle.
9. Ensuring customer satisfaction by delivering quality work and fostering positive relationships.
10. Developing a personal development plan.
11. Supervising and developing staff.
12. Ensuring a safe working environment for all staff.
13. Minimizing waste from departmental activities.
14. Considering environmental issues in design processes.
15. Adhering to all health and safety requirements in design.
Essential qualifications and experience:
* Chartered or near-chartered status.
* Strong understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
* Experience managing staff in designing water and sewage treatment plants.
* Membership of a relevant professional institution.
* Engineering degree in a relevant discipline.
* Ability to rationalize designs and produce economical plant layouts.
* Good knowledge of water treatment aspects including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
* Flexible mindset with the ability to process large amounts of data.
* Effective presentation skills for technical proposals.
* Computer literacy.
* Valid driving license.
