Offer description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated administrator to join our friendly practice team.

The ideal candidate would have experience of using EMIS and a good sound knowledge of medical terminology.

You must be accurate, have good communication skills, be a team player and also be able to work flexibly.


Main duties of the job

The primaryresponsibilities of the role include reviewing, summarising and coding patientinformation form medical records in both electronic and paper format whileadhering to national clinical coding standards and practice protocols.

To provide anefficient typing and word processing service for GPs and HealthProfessionals as required. This includes the typing of letters, patient referrals, co-ordination of referral forms and notifications in an accurate and timely manner.

Job responsibilities

Primary keyresponsibilities

The following are the core responsibilities of the clinicalcoder. There may be, on occasion, a requirementto carry out other tasks. This will be dependent upon factors such asworkload and staffing levels.

Typingletters, reports and associated documentation as required

Liaisingwith external agencies such as hospitals and community services, ensuringreferrals are processed efficiently

Initiatecontact with and respond to requests from patients, team members and externalagencies

Processingreferrals using the electronic referral system (ERS)

Processingrequests for information i.e., SAR, insurance/solicitors letters and DVLAform

Inputdata into the patients healthcare records as necessary, Entering SNOMED CTcode data where necessary

Accuratelyclinically coding data on EMIS web into the patient record

Identifyingrelevant clinical information documented in patient correspondence, codingappropriately and completing any detailed action

Inputtingand extracting data as required to support practice report

Filingand storing records as require

Photocopyingdocumentation as required

Actionall incoming correspondence, emails and mail in a timely manner and directingto the appropriate person

Scanningpatient related documentation and attaching scanned documents to patientshealthcare records

Summarisingnew patient records

Answeringincoming telephone calls, transferring calls or dealing with the callersrequest appropriately

Managingall administrative queries as necessary

Answeringincoming professional line phone calls, transferring calls or dealing withthe callers request appropriately

Secondaryresponsibilities

In addition to the primary responsibilities, the clinical coder may berequested to:

Reviewand update the practice coding and referrals policies as require

Partakein audit as directed by the audit lead

Carryingout system searches as requested

Undertakeall mandatory training and induction programmes

Attenda formal appraisal with line manager at least every 12 months.

Once aperformance/training objective has been set, progress will be

reviewed on aregular basis so that new objectives can be agreed

Contributeto public health campaigns (e.g., flu clinics) through advice


Person Specification


Qualifications

* Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
* Very good command of written and oral communication, including typing abilities
* Very good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages primarily; Word and Excel
* Knowledge of medical terminology


Experience

* Experience with working with General Public
* Previous NHS experience is essential. We will consider candidates from primary and secondary care
* Very good command of written and oral communication, including typing abilities
* Very good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages primarily; Word and Excel
* Knowledge of EMIS would be advantageous
* Previous use of eRS referral pathway
* Experience of Administrative Duties
* Experience in coding
* Experience in working in Primary Care
