Role Overview
As an Apprentice Building Services Engineer at Mitie, you will work across busy, live education settings, helping maintain spaces where thousands of students learn daily. Your work will directly support the day‑to‑day running of campuses across the LSBU contract.
Responsibilities
* Learn essential skills across building services, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), electrical systems, plumbing, and general maintenance.
* Assist with planned preventative maintenance and reactive repair tasks across campus buildings.
* Work alongside experienced engineers to diagnose faults and carry out repairs.
* Gain hands‑on experience using industry‑leading tools and technology to monitor and improve building performance.
* Support Mitie’s sustainability commitments, including energy efficiency and decarbonisation initiatives across the estate.
* Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (HSEQ) standards, making safety a priority.
Training & Apprenticeship Programme
As part of your apprenticeship, you will be enrolled onto a Level 3 Building Services Engineering Qualification, normally running for 3 years. You will be supported by GLP Training through a mix of virtual learning and hands‑on workshops and will attend their training centre in Worcester every 3 weeks for 2 days, with travel and accommodation covered by Mitie.
Qualifications & Requirements
* A keen interest in the chosen field.
* The ability to think critically and find solutions.
* Dedication to completing the apprenticeship and growing with Mitie.
* GCSEs in Maths and English (Grades 4–9 or equivalent) or Scottish National 5 certificates (Grade A–C). Certificates must be provided at the interview stage.
Experience
No prior experience required – enthusiasm and willingness to learn will be enough.
