Play a vital role in keeping our school safe, compliant and running smoothly

We're looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Estates Assistant to join our busy Estates Team. This is a hands-on, full-time role supporting a wide range of safety, compliance, and logistical tasks across our beautiful and busy campus.

From fire alarm testing and water safety checks to keeping compliance records up to date, you'll be instrumental in ensuring everything behind the scenes is working exactly as it should - helping create a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment for pupils, staff and visitors alike.

About the role

Reporting to the Estates Manager, and working closely with the Campus Manager and Health & Safety Advisor, you'll:

Carry out essential statutory checks and routine inspections, including:

* Fire alarm, extinguisher and emergency lighting checks.
* Legionella risk control measures such as temperature checks and water flushing.
* Fire and automatic door inspections.
* Swimming pool water quality testing.
* Portable Appliance Testing (PAT).
* Playground and ride-on equipment inspections.
* Accessibility toilet alarm testing.
* Ladder inspections.
* External lighting timer adjustments.
* Door Access Control management.
* Health and Safety signage assessment and implementation.
* Emergency light flick testing.

You'll also:

* Support the Caretaker with porterage, event setups, parcel deliveries, and other operational duties
* Accurately recording test results and maintaining up-to-date compliance data using digital and paper systems
* Helping improve and maintain compliance systems and documentation
* Supervising non-DBS checked contractors on site when needed
* Assisting with the storage and distribution of compliance-related materials and keys
* Maintaining a visible and proactive presence across campus to ensure tasks are completed efficiently

You'll bring:

* A motivated, reliable and detail-focused approach
* Confidence working independently and managing routine tasks to a high standard
* Good organisational and record-keeping skills
* Confidence using Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook) and PDFs
* A practical mindset with the physical ability to move between campus sites and complete hands-on tasks
* Some knowledge of building services and compliance (desirable but not essential – training will be provided)
* Qualifications in areas like PAT Testing, Legionella Awareness or Fire Safety are a bonus, but not required

Why Join Us:

Become part of a supportive and experienced Estates Team where your contribution truly matters. Here, every team member plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, efficient, and welcoming environment for our school community. You'll have plenty of opportunities to grow professionally while making a meaningful impact every day.

We offer:

* Contributory pension scheme
* 25 days annual leave, plus 8 bank holidays (to be taken during school holidays)
* Fee remission for children attending Wellington School (Reception to Sixth Form)
* Free school lunches during term time
* Access to Sports Facilities (subject to availability) and free wellbeing classes such as yoga and football
* Staff wellbeing initiatives, including access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
* Free on-site parking and participation in the Cycle to Work scheme
* Ongoing investment in your professional development
* Opportunities to take part in regular staff social events

If you take pride in practical work, enjoy solving problems, and want to be part of a team that genuinely makes a difference day to day - we'd love to hear from you.
