Join Our Team as a Senior Engineer – Electrical Engineering (C & I)
Location: Barrow-in-Furness – Hybrid (2 days onsite per fortnight, depending on business needs)

What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Senior Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of submarine technology. Your responsibilities will include:
* Developing functional designs for Control & Instrumentation (C&I) solutions in electrical systems, derived from Piping & Instrumentation diagrams.
* Producing Bills of Materials for C&I equipment.
* Specifying instrumentation for pressure, temperature, flow, level, and analysis tailored to specific process conditions.
* Creating C&I designs that meet a variety of standards, including functional, safety, and naval standards.
* Ensuring compliance with non-functional stakeholders (EMC, Shock, Metallics, etc.).
* Producing verification evidence to demonstrate design compliance.
* Generating various design documents such as I/O schedules, instrument schedules, and functional design specifications.
* Implementing physical system-to-system interface designs.
* Leading technical design reviews for C&I.
* Articulating and presenting technical arguments clearly and logically.
* Conducting peer reviews and managing system design maturity to meet program demands.
* Liaising with internal and external customers as part of a dynamic technical team.
Your Skills and Experiences:
* BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent.
* Working towards professional registration.
* Strong technical report writing skills.
* Demonstrable experience in the engineering lifecycle.
* Knowledge of defence standards is a plus.
* Experience in system calculations, modeling, and analysis.
* Understanding of at least one of the following areas:
o Legacy submarine design programs.
o Experience with high, medium, and low voltage systems.
o Control system architecture and communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, PROFIBUS).
o Completion and verification of designs in accordance with IEC 61508 – Functional Safety (or similar).
o Multi-disciplinary engineering understanding, including Mechanical, Process, Instrument, Electrical, Control, and Safety.
o Specifying equipment for Hazardous Areas and producing verification evidence.
o Contributing to the production and improvement of process instructions.

About the Marine Systems Control and Instrumentation Team:
This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Marine Systems Control and Instrumentation Team, focusing on C&I Design for Submarine Platform Marine Systems. You will contribute to the SSNA program and the next generation of submarine design.
In this role, you will support Principal Engineers and external specialists in the development, analysis, integration, and verification of platform control and instrumentation systems. You will lead analyses and produce technical reports, ensuring that operator control console designs meet defined criteria and program demands.
We also provide relocation support packages for eligible candidates across all Submarine roles.
