Job Description:
Job overview
We have an exciting opportunity to recruit a full-time Trainee Assistant Practitioner to join our Integrated Stroke Rehabilitation Therapies Team. The position offers the chance to complete a Foundation Degree Assistant Practitioner via an apprenticeship route. Upon successful completion of the 2-year course, you will move into a band 4 position.
We seek a highly motivated and enthusiastic candidate, preferably with prior experience in a rehabilitation setting, who has studied to NVQ level 3 in health and social care or an equivalent academic level, and is competent in IT systems.
You will work across the stroke therapies pathway supporting Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Speech and Language Therapists treating patients on the acute stroke unit at Blackburn Hospital, inpatient stroke rehab, and the community stroke team based at Pendle Community Hospital. A driver is essential.
The apprenticeship is a 2-year academic program including work-based learning in partnership with UCLAN. Applicants will attend university one day per week and undertake up to 20 hours of additional study per week in their own time.
Qualified Assistant Practitioners are encouraged to apply as well.
For further information, contact Gemma Gumbley, Operational Lead for Stroke & Neuro Rehabilitation Therapies, at 07944190780.
Main duties of the job
As an Assistant Practitioner/Trainee Assistant Practitioner, you will assist in delivering specialist therapy across East Lancashire, supporting qualified therapists in assessing and treating stroke patients.
You will undertake highly skilled support work supervised by a member of the Stroke Rehabilitation Therapy Team, including gathering assessment information, implementing treatment programs, and recommending equipment and minor adaptations.
You will employ technical and creative skills in providing therapeutic activities, evaluating and modifying treatment plans with guidance from therapists.
You will manage your own caseload within a broad framework set by a qualified therapist.
The work environment includes inpatient stroke units, care homes, and patients' homes, with potential lone working in the community.
The working hours are 08:30 to 16:30, currently over 6 days a week including bank holidays, with future plans to extend to 7 days. Flexibility to change base according to service needs is required.
