Overview
We are looking for a Graduate Water Quality Consultant in our Shrewsbury office as part of our 2026 Graduate Programme. As a Stantec graduate you will collaborate with a team and a wider cohort, develop professional skills and expertise within an interdisciplinary environment, and contribute to exciting projects across the UK and occasionally internationally.
Responsibilities
- Assess the impact of water company discharges (continuous and intermittent) and the investment needed to improve the status of rivers, seas and sensitive habitats.
- Use a source‑pathway‑receptor approach to develop robust evidence‑led assessments of pressures and impacts on the water environment, informing integrated catchment management.
- Promote nature‑based solutions as sustainable and resilient alternatives to traditional engineering solutions.
- Conceptualise, quantitatively describe and report on environmental water quality systems and processes.
- Develop skills in environmental chemistry, wastewater collection and treatment, nature‑based solutions, river and coastal modelling, climate change assessments and catchment management.
- Apply fundamental project management principles, including working within budget and scope, and liaison with other professionals in the industry.
- Carry out technical field work as well as office‑based work, collecting and analysing data and modelling catchment systems.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an environmental‑related discipline.
- Minimum A Level or equivalent qualification in Maths.
- Adaptable, able to remain calm in new and changing situations and switch between dynamic tasks.
- Persistent, staying composed in the face of setbacks and approaching challenges with confidence and determination.
- Focused, tuning out distractions to perform effectively in any situation.
