JOB CONTEXT
The post holder has responsibility for operating plant and equipment in a variety of roles across the Directorate. The types of vehicle and plant within scope of this role could be excavators, tractors, vehicles up to 7.5 ft to include small refuse collection vehicles.
Delivering professional, efficient and effective services across the County, ensuring high standards of performance and customer satisfaction at all times. This post is deemed to be a Safety Critical post in line with the Council's Workplace Substance Misuse Policy. In addition to those circumstance listed in the policy where a test will be required, this post will be subject to random testing.
Job purpose:
To operate vehicles/equipment that are critical for service delivery, while not traditionally within the scope of the Council's Operator Licence these vehicles require specialist skills and/or qualifications.
Operational Management:
The postholder will be required to operate specialised pieces of equipment safely and efficiently. As such the postholder will be seen as one of our more skilled and competent driver/operators and be a key resource for service delivery.
* Vehicles can include any of the following types: Tractors with trailers and/or attachment/implements; Up to GVW 7.5t vans, RCVs, hook lift skip vehicles; Excavators; Vehicle Mounted Access Platforms; Mechanical Sweepers; Forklift Trucks
* Carrying out daily vehicle maintenance checks, completing vehicle documentation and signing off as the responsible vehicle operator as required this will include reporting any defects into the workshop.
* Ensuring that the vehicles are maintained in a clean and tidy condition, both internally and externally.
* The postholder is also responsible for completing relevant tasks which may include; litter picking, bin emptying, waste collection and bin deliveries, around the operation of key plant.
* The Postholder is also required to operate hand/power tools – drills/grinders, in the course of the installation/removal of litter bins. ·
* Attend emergency call as required such as pump deployment for flooding.
* Monitor and report on current status with regards to flooding and pump deployment.
Resource management:
* To manage a changing workload with due regard to high profile service delivery. ·
* To supervise a crew as and when required. ·
* To ensure vehicles are looked after and any misuse is rectified, and any damage reported promptly. ·
* To ensure all requisite ongoing training is complete and safe systems of work are followed at all times.
Partnerships:
* To liaise with colleagues and the public who are working alongside or near to plant
* To effectively liaise with workshop colleagues/maintenance partners to help reduce vehicle downtime and the safe utilisation of the Council's fleet.
Communications:
* To communicate effectively with customers, colleagues and management. Placing the highest possible emphasis on customer care and actively encourage customer involvement and feedback.
Systems and information:
* To assist management by using various systems consistently and accurately. These primarily include driver hours monitoring and in-cab software.
