Overview
AYBL is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Garment Technologist to join our in-house team. This role requires expertise across Womenswear and Menswear within multiple activewear and other product categories. You’ll oversee day-to-day operations of the Garment Technology department, ensuring every product meets high standards of quality, fit, and performance.
Working closely with the Senior Designer, you will support development of innovative, functional, trend-driven products that align with AYBL’s aesthetic and performance expectations. You’ll drive technical excellence and efficiency throughout the product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
* Lead and manage all aspects of the Garment Technology department’s daily operations.
* Organise and oversee the Garment Technologist and Junior Garment Technologists day-to-day workload, including sample measuring, fit comments and product grading, while providing clear direction and support to aid their progression and learning.
* Oversee the end-to-end product development process, working closely with the design team from initial design concept through to final product, ensuring all garments meet quality, fit, and technical standards while maintaining design integrity.
* Provide technical information to design and development packs, including measurements, block and construction details to obtain the perfect first sample.
* Plan and organise weekly fit sessions with internal and external fit models, scheduling sessions in advance to maintain an efficient and consistent workflow.
* Attend weekly critical path meetings with Design, Merchandising and Quality Assurance teams to ensure alignment on ex-factory dates, address production delays, and keep product timelines on track.
* Work with international suppliers to ensure garments are manufactured efficiently and to the highest standards while maintaining strong communication and nurturing supplier relationships.
* Support the internal Quality Assurance team to maintain product standards and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
* Perform any other duties required by your manager.
Person Specification
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Garment Technologist role
* Previous experience in Seamless/Activewear product is imperative
* Previous experience in team management
* A proven track record of developing and delivering high-quality products across multiple categories, with a keen eye for detail
* Excellent technical knowledge of garment construction, pattern cutting, fabric properties, grading, sizing and manufacturing processes across both womenswear and menswear
* Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and with international suppliers
* Ability to assist with the management of quality control processes
* Experience working with international factories and suppliers
* Exceptional attention to detail and quality standards
* Familiarity with relevant safety and quality standards, including testing methods and procedures
* Highly organised with the ability to self-manage
* Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite
* Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
* Interest in the fitness industry would be advantageous

Our home is located in Redditch, South Birmingham, with easy access to the M5/M42, a 20-minute walk to the train station, and many bus routes. Arrow Valley Lake is nearby for a lunch break or a stroll.
