Operations Manager (Food) — Permanent

Grade 6 - £52,413 - £64,811

Consultation grade - subject to formal evaluation under the Pay Equity Review

Working 36.5 hours per week

An exciting job opportunity has arisen to join Birmingham City Council's Environmental Health team as Operations Manager (Food).

The successful candidate will be the Lead Food Officer as well as be responsible for a team of Environmental Health Officers and Food Safety Officers undertaking investigations, conducting inspections, and enforcing food legislation.


Responsibilities

* Lead a team of Environmental Health Officers and Food Safety Officers; undertake investigations, conduct inspections, and enforce food legislation.
* Be the Lead Food Officer and manage operations within Environmental Health.
* Enforce across the breadth of Environmental Health legislation including approved premises and manufacturers.
* Provide effective leadership to motivate and develop the team to deliver objectives.
* Prioritise and manage workloads to meet deadlines in a busy environment with competing demands.
* Communicate effectively (verbal and written), including writing and presenting reports to Council committees.
* Use IT systems including Environmental Health software for reporting; monitor performance to maximise outcomes.
* Work flexibly including some work outside normal officer hours; travel within Birmingham is required and car use is remunerated.


Qualifications

* Degree/diploma in Environmental Health.
* EHORB registered or a CIEH Registered Environmental Health Practitioner.
* Experience in enforcement across Environmental Health legislation; knowledge of approved premises and manufacturers.
* Strong management skills to motivate and develop teams and meet objectives.
* Proven ability to prioritise, manage workloads, and meet deadlines in a busy environment.
* Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and experience of writing/presenting reports to Council committees.
* Strong IT skills and experience with Environmental Health software for reporting.
* Experience of performance monitoring to ensure efficient operation and outcomes.
* Ability to work flexibly, including some work outside normal hours.
* Full driving licence and willingness to travel within Birmingham (car use remunerated).
