Facilities & Compliance Officer
Location: Westonbirt Arboretum
I’m currently recruiting for a Facilities & Compliance Officer at Westonbirt Arboretum. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience in facilities management, building compliance, or health & safety who is looking for a varied, hands-on role.
The role
In this position, you’ll be responsible for a diverse estate of over 30 properties, including residential buildings, commercial tenants, and operational facilities.
You’ll play a key role in ensuring buildings are:
* Safe, compliant, and well maintained
* Operating efficiently day to day
* Supporting both staff and visitor needs
You’ll work closely with the Building Surveyor and act as the link between operational teams and estates, helping maintain high standards across the site.
Key responsibilities
The role will involve:
* Leading on statutory and mandatory compliance across the estate
* Acting as the Responsible/Appointed Person for fire, asbestos, legionella, gas, electrical systems, and other compliance areas
* Managing contractors and ensuring strong health & safety performance
* Overseeing inspections, servicing, and planned preventative maintenance
* Maintaining accurate compliance records and systems
* Supporting budget management and procurement of works
* Leading on site security and risk assessments, including CCTV where required
* Monitoring energy and water usage, supporting efficiency and sustainability targets
* Working closely with site teams to ensure tasks are completed effectively
* Supporting minor works, reactive maintenance, and facilities projects
About you
My client is looking for someone who:
* Has experience in facilities, estates, or compliance-focused roles
* Understands health & safety legislation and statutory requirements
* Has experience managing contractors and overseeing site works
* Can prioritise workloads and work independently
* Communicates well and builds strong working relationships
* Takes a proactive, practical approach to problem solving
* Has strong attention to detail and experience with RAMS
* Is comfortable using IT systems
* Holds a full UK driving licence
Professional membership (e.g. IWFM, RICS, CIBSE) is desirable, but not essential.
Desirable experience
* Specialist compliance knowledge (e.g. asbestos, water hygiene, electrical)
* Experience with GIS or asset management systems
* NEC contract experience
* Relevant H&S or site supervision qualifications (SMSTS / SSSTS)
