The Role
Erskine Stewart’s Melville Schools are currently recruiting for two, proactive Assistant Janitors to join the Estates and Facilities Department on a permanent, full‑time basis. The position is available for an immediate start (subject to satisfactory pre‑employment checks). The role is full time, working 47 hours and will work across both the Queensferry Road site and Ravelston site, with some requirements to also work across the Inverleith site. Being on‑call and having weekend availability is a requirement of the role.
The purpose for our Janitorial Team is to ensure the safety, security, and smooth operation of our Schools and campus. You will be responsible for tasks including acting as Fire Officer, managing fire hazards, monitoring CCTV, assisting visitors, managing traffic, performing minor repairs, and maintaining cleanliness and outdoor areas. You will also support event setups, conduct PAT testing, and operate and maintain school vehicles and minibus when and as required.
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of Health and Safety procedures and the ability to handle physical and manual‑handling tasks. They will possess previous experience in a janitorial or caretaking role, experience in the transportation of large goods such as furniture and equipment as well as experience in completing small, manual tasks and have familiarity with security and fire systems. A full, clean UK driving licence is essential.
