You will face a wide range of challenges, supporting businesses in sectors from biotech to energy to space. Reporting to the Head of Business Incubation at Daresbury, you will work closely with The Facilities Manager at RAL and the STFC SHE Group, aswell as the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) group for STFC. An opportunity exists to both draw on and compliment the specific skills and experience within the team. This is a key role for the department and for STFC. We are looking for senior SHE specialists with a demonstrable track record of leadership and delivery of impact in specialist area(s) of SHE management relevant to STFC operations. Key Responsibilities: Lead and manage the provision of effective, efficient and professional SHE services to STFC staff, contractors, tenants, visitors, ensuring compliance. Provide timely professional SHE advice and guidance to tenants and support them in discharging their responsibility for the implementation of the STFC SHE Management System. Development and review STFC's tenant Health and Safety management systems and processes, based upon experience of internal application, audit findings, external best practice, and legislative changes identified through horizon scanning. Ensure that all SHE incidents, including injuries, near misses, fires, environmental and vehicle incidents are reported, investigated appropriately and actions established to minimise the likelihood of their repetition. Sharing STFC wide learning appropriately. Assist with the preparation and delivery of STFC specific on-line and face to face SHE training programmes for tenants. Attend and report to site, department and specialist Safety Committee meetings on behalf of BID. Person Specification: The below criteria will be scored during Shortlisting (S), Interview (I) or both (S&I). Educated to degree or HND level in a science or engineering discipline. (S) NEBOSH National Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Professionals or equivalent qualification. (S,I) Demonstrable experience of successful delivery of a SHE Advisory role in science, engineering or technology sectors, with a broad working knowledge of current and forthcoming changes to UK SHE legislation relevant to STFC. (S,I) A good knowledge of SHE management systems and safe systems of work. (I) Strong oral and written communication skills, with evidence of excellent interpersonal skills deployed with staff at all levels from Operator to Manager and Director. (I) Proactive with a high degree of self-motivation and independence, able to deliver under pressure and against tight deadlines. (I) Good knowledge of Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH). (S,I) Good knowledge of Biological Materials and Genetically Modified Organisms (BioCOSHH). (S,I) Good knowledge of DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations) Assessments. (S,I) Additional Requirements: Available to work and travel in the UK. You will be based at either DL or RAL but will be expected to travel and work at the other site.
