An exciting opportunity has arisen for maternity cover as a Practice Development Midwife (PDM) join the excellent team of Practice Development Midwives and Clinical Placement Facilitators as they develop midwives and wider interprofessional team to improve the care of Mothers, their babies and wider family.
The education team also has a keen role in ensuring the interprofessional team meets national standards for training to ensure the safety of the mothers and babies at the Evelina London, Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust.

Main duties of the job
We are looking for a PDM to focus specifically on the experiences and development of preceptorship midwives and internationally educated midwives.
The practice development midwifery team is part of the Evelina London Education Team, delivering education across the women's and children's services on the Evelina Site, in the community, and South Thames Network.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Act as a role model in promoting and educating staff regarding providing respectful, equitable care and the cultural safety of women, their families, and fellow colleagues.
* Work alongside newly qualified midwives to identify development needs and support them to achieve clinical competencies in all areas. This may include such skills as scrubbing in theatre, perineal suturing, cannulation, and IV therapy.
* Advocate for midwives' learning and development needs and ensure that midwives are well supported and nurtured in their roles.
* Encourage and promote staff wellbeing and self-care.
* Work across all maternity locations to provide consistent practice development cover for the whole Trust.
* Formulate and ensure all staff are aware and implementing the evidence-based protocols agreed for the Women’s directorate.
* Promote staff awareness of the national agenda, influencing midwifery services and ensuring the service reflects current policy.
* Initiate/participate in projects and working groups within the maternity department, as required.

* Knowledge of educational standards and practice.
* Understanding of the principles of teaching and learning and their application within the practice setting
* Able to present articulately to large groups of people
* Proficient in a wide range of clinical skills including cannulation, scrubbing, IV therapy and suturing
* Excellent time management and organisational skills
* Understanding of the principles of teaching and learning and their application within the practice setting
* Experience of mentoring/supervising/ assessing students in practice Experience of designing, delivering and evaluating training sessions / programmes
* Significant post registration experience within their speciality
* Experience of managing a team, caseload or projects
* Experience of involvement in educational initiatives
